Along with many other countries, Malta is now on a partial lockdown, and who knows if we’ll be on a total one any time soon? While many of us are stuck at home, whether working or not, it’s very easy for a long period of isolation to affect us negatively.

For this reason, I’ve decided to put together a few ideas of things that you can do during this time. Let’s try to keep our spirits high – worry and panic won’t help us get through this any sooner than being positive will (on the contrary actually, it can make things worse), so we might as well make the most of the time we’ve been given. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve tried to make this list as relatable as possible, using ideas that are practical (I hope) to do whether you’re alone, with your partner, or even with your children.

๐ŸŒท Spring Cleaning:ย
This is one of the things we keep putting off because we don’t have the time. Well, here’s your chance. Empty those drawers, wardrobes, cupboards, shelves, everything! Clean everything, now more than ever before. Get rid of stuff you don’t need. Make everything look pretty. You’ll enjoy it so much once you get into it – you just need to get started.

๐Ÿฒ Try new recipes:
If you’ve already stocked up on some supplies, (which, let’s face it, you probably have) here’s a great opportunity to try out some new recipes. Get creative and experiment with both sweet and savoury. My suggestion is to also cook things that you can make in bulk and freeze. This will be hugely beneficial over these coming weeks and save you having to cook every day.

๐Ÿ“ Write a list:
Lists are great. They help you come up with awesome ideas, help you get organised, and give you the urge to get stuff done. Write down a list of all the things that you’re grateful for. Write a list of simple things that make you happy. Write a list of things you want to accomplish this year. Write a list of things you love about yourself. Heck, write a list of lists you want to write. Just make a list of something โค
(Can you tell I love lists?)

๐Ÿค“ Learn something:
I hear so many people say that they wish they could learn to do something but never have the time. Once again, you now have the perfect opportunity to get started! There are plenty of apps and online courses, some even free, that you can use while you’re stuck at home. So whether it’s an instrument, a language, or any other skill or habit that you’d like to pick up, here’s your chance! Go for it! ๐Ÿ˜€

๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk to people:
I cannot emphasize this enough. Whether it’s someone you usually speak to daily or someone you wish you spoke to more, make sure you get in touch with them. Even people who generally enjoy isolation need some kind of socialisation every now and then. And there are many people who suffer greatly when isolated, so please check in on your loved ones, make video calls and send messages. We need to stick together and help each other through this – separated, but in harmony.

๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ง Exercise and Hydrate:
Physical activity and hydration are SO important, especially at a time like this. First of all, people tend to eat more (and less healthily) when they’re home all the time (I’m currently eating popcorn and m&ms), and if you bought a lot of pre-packed meals for quarantine, then God knows what you’re actually eating. Secondly, exercising and staying hydrated are incredibly crucial for good mental wellbeing too, which is bound to be compromised when you’re locked inside your house – especially if you’re already prone to suffering with your mental health.

Thirdly, drinking plenty of water will help flush out any toxins, while exercising will keep your body nice and strong to fight off any sicknesses. So whether it’s yoga, pilates, HIIT, or even just dancing around like a lunatic (my personal favourite), there are many fantastic ways to get a workout done. Do whatever feels right – just please do something – and drink up!

7 Things You Can Do While Quarantined At Home

๐Ÿง˜โ€ Do what relaxes you:
Catch up on reading, binge-watch your favourite series on Netflix, sleep plenty, get as much sun and fresh air as you can, and do whatever you normally don’t manage to do. We are all in the same boat and I know it’s not easy. But let’s appreciate what we have and make the best of it. Some people aren’t so lucky.

I hope you enjoyed this list – let me know if you have any other ideas! Meanwhile I’d like to wish you all health, safety, peace, and love. And sanity. ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time,
